Applications of Pneumatics
Pneumatics - originates from the Greek word "Pneuma", which means breath or wind. A such, it applies to applications involving compressed air. In most cases the application of compressed air is used to execute movements and to generate mechanical force. Pneumatic drives are designed to exploit the energy stored in the compressed air and convert it into kinetic energy. The most important components of pneumatic systems are comprised of air-operated devices like cylinders and motors on the one hand and control or actuating elements (valves) on the other hand. Nowadays pneumatic systems are primarily employed in automation engineering and thus their most frequent application is in the rationalisation of technical processes.
